Berkeley Ballot Guide:
November 2026

Voting this fall? Here's what our friends and allies recommend

WECAN isn't making endorsements this election. We're a young group, and we want to do it thoughtfully. Maybe next time! Still, many of you have asked where to start, especially on local races and measures, which rarely get the attention they deserve.

This year's ballot matters a lot. In District 8, the next city councilmember will help decide how we tackle housing affordability and street safety, and the candidates bring very different perspectives to those questions. Our neighborhood is small, so reach out to them and ask about the issues you care about.

The regional transit measure is just as consequential: BART and AC Transit both face major budget shortfalls, and the measure's outcome will help determine whether they can keep running the service we depend on.

Voter guides we trust

Here are guides from organizations that share our priorities on housing affordability, safe streets, public transit, and climate action. We don't necessarily agree with every position they take, so read up, talk with your neighbors, and make your own call.

  • Berkeley Neighbors for Housing and Climate Action (BNHCA) - Berkeley residents advocating for more homes in walkable, transit-rich neighborhoods. See their endorsements

  • Berkeley Democratic Club - Alameda County’s oldest Democratic club. See their endorsements

  • SPUR - A Bay Area policy nonprofit known for in-depth analysis of state and regional measures. Read their guide

  • Bike East Bay - Advocates for safe, connected streets for people biking, walking, and riding transit. Read their guide

  • Sierra Club, San Francisco Bay Chapter - The local chapter of the nation’s largest grassroots environmental organization. See their endorsements

Who put this together

WECAN is a group of neighbors who want our corner of Berkeley to be a place where everyone can belong. We think the best way to care for this neighborhood is to plan for its future, not just defend its past.

This guide was put together by our policy committee. We’re homeowners and renters. Many of us grew up here and are now raising young families here, and some of us have lived here for more than 40 years. Most of us also work professionally on housing, transportation, and climate policy, and many of us serve on the boards of the groups we’ve cited here.
